The Prairie Trail Hy-Vee located at 2510 SW State Street, less than a four-minute drive from DMACC Ankeny campus, opened on Sept. 24, 2013.
Store Director Kevin Hudachek shared his excitement about the opening of the new Hy-Vee.
After seven months of building, the enormous 92,000 square feet building is ready to be opened. Ankeny has had a 50% growth in population since 2000, creating the need for this new Hy-Vee.
647 people have been employed with 54 working as managers to make the store a success. Hudachek said he is very impressed with those working there and that they are great employees.
There are a variety of departments to shop in, including the largest Health Market in any Hy-Vee, a drive-thru pharmacy, and a Hy-Vee Wine and Spirits, and many more. There are two on-staff dietitians that welcome walk-ins and appointments.
Customers can shop online and have their groceries delivered to them or waiting at the store. As another new feature, Hy-Vee can text or email a preview of personalized cakes or bouquets to gain approval before finishing.
The Prairie Trail Hy-Vee is one of two new stores that eliminated the waiting process at the dine-in food counter.
“It is a great place for DMACC students to go for lunch because it is so close and convenient, not to mention you can get almost anything you could imagine to eat,” Hudachek said.
The shelves are neat, organized, and full. There are a wide variety of products available. The store is very clean and immaculate. The children can play along with tot-sized, lime green carts.
