Trail Point Aquatics and Wellness will be open February 13 here on the Ankeny DMACC campus.
The aquatics and wellness center features an eight-lane competition swimming pool, a family pool, a therapy pool, two group fitness rooms and one cycling studio, state-of-the-art exercise and strength training equipment, three racquetball courts, a 1/10 of a mile elevated track, and two full-sized basketball courts.
Trail Point will also be adding another food service to Building 5: Café X. Café X, an “experimental drink lab,” is run by Café Diem and opened in mid-January. They serve healthier options for breakfast and lunch, along with smoothies, coffee, and tea.
The childcare services on campus are also working with Trail Point in providing childcare for members while they’re using the facility.
Membership for DMACC students currently enrolled in at least six credit hours is free. Membership for college students at the local Y is $35. For community members, the price difference of membership between Trail Point and the YMCA is only about a $3 difference. A single membership at Trail Point costs $55, with the Y’s price at $57.50.
Students on campus are excited at the opening of Trail Point. Cean Meyer, an accounting major from Johnston, plans to use the gym at least three times a week and is most excited about the cost. “No membership cost is great. Free workouts are everything.”
David Beadke, from West Des Moines, is thrilled about being able to access a gym so close to his classes and plans on “hitting the weight room daily.”
