The Bears men’s golf team opened their season in Mason City last Monday with the NIACC Invitational team championship. In their first competition of the year, the Bears posted a seven-under-par score of 281, beating out SWCC by seven strokes. The DMACC women’s team came second behind Iowa Lakes Community College by eight strokes, 344 to 336.
Sophomore Louis Psihoyos from Dubuque led the Bears men with a four-under-par score of 68, taking medalist honors in the attempt. Sophomore Dylan Scheffler of Sac City followed Psihoyos with a two-under score of 70.
Other DMACC contestants were sophomores Noah Hartman (71), Dylan Ellis (72), Kolby Chup (74), Connor Shannon (75), Tyler Wierson (77), Noah Wilkening (78), Drew Fielder (79) and freshmen Keegan Hansen (75), Jacob Hesner (76), and Ryan Cole (79).
The DMACC women were led by sophomores Kylie Nichols from Ogden and Alison Schweers of Carroll who tied with an eight-over-par score of 80, tying for third place in the individual competition. DMACC’s other women competitors were sophomore Meghan Matherly (88), and freshman Abi Tinlin (96).
The next time the Bears hit the links will be September 21st for the women in Storm Lake at the Buena Vista Invitational, and the men will be at the Men’s Fall Preview on September 23rd at Veenker Memorial Golf Couse in Ames.
