The eSports lounge opened last November in Building 5 and offers students gaming on consoles, PCs, and pool tables.

Currently, the lounge hours are 4 to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Campus Recreation Coordinator Andy Nelson said they are considering changing the lounge hours to accommodate student demand. “We are looking to change those hours to more of a 2 to 7 or 2 to 8 p.m. to help with the student’s time frame; they are requesting an earlier time of day,” he said.

The eSports lounge will be closed on weekends and holidays. Nelson said that whenever the DMACC campus is closed, the lounge will also be closed.

Nelson spoke about future plans with the lounge: “ We will, at the end of the semester, have some various eSports Tournaments. Tight now we’re polling some of the eSports participants that are coming through the doors and what kind of games they want to play, and we will explore those tournaments at that time.”

“Right now the kids like Rocket League, anything Mario Kart, Super Smash Brothers those are some of the tournaments we might look into since that’s what they want to play right now,” Nelson said.

The lounge offers PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch. There is one pool table and are in the process of trying to get another one.

Nelson said that the number of students using the lounge got off to a slow start but after the holidays those numbers started to grow. “Since the first of the year we’ve definitely built on that new faces are coming each and every day as the semester has gone on and will go on those numbers will grow we will continue to promote the room,” he said.

Nelson had one last piece of advice for all DMACC students: “I tell everybody intramurals, or campus rec in general, is just part of the total college experience. Find what you like to do whether that’s an eSport or an intramural event whatever it is just get involved and find your place on campus,” he said.
