Spring student activities at Ankeny DMACC

The spring semester is here. Faculty, staff, and students alike are very excited to get this semester up and running. Between the upcoming musical, intramurals starting again, and just having students back on campus, there is a lot going on.

Student Activities Coordinator Erin Smith has some upcoming events that she is particularly excited about. On January 29 was the spring into DMACC event in Building 5. Spring into DMACC is an event where students can meet with clubs and resources on campus, whether they have heard of them or not. It is a great way for new or returning DMACC students to get involved with clubs and activities on campus. It is also a way for students to find what resources DMACC has to offer for you to be as successful as possible during your time here.

Smith said, “Find out how to get involved and get connected.” Spring into DMACC happened January 29 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Building 5 in the main corridor.

In February there is a pre-Valentine’s Day fundraiser. They will have five or six animals to pick from that come with stuffing. You can send them to yourself, or to another student. They are $5 per animal with all the proceeds going to Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines.

“We have done this the last five or six years and it is one of our biggest fundraisers of the spring. It feels good to give back to the community, but it is also something the students love as well,” said Smith. This event is happening February 12 in Building 5 and goes from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until they run out of stuffed animals.

There will also be “Spin to Win” free groceries events happening in February and March. There will be three levels of free groceries that you could potentially win, and everyone will be a winner. Another event to keep an eye out for is any trivia events that the student council will put on in Building 5.

And lastly, there will be events celebrating Earth Day. Build your own Lucky Bamboo kit. They will include vases and rocks so you can build your own kit and take it home. This event is free. “Students and Staff in the past have really enjoyed it. You can walk around sometimes and see their bamboo on their desks,” Smith said. That event will happen in April around Earth Day.
