Reactions – Were you surprised by the election results?
“It was a rough morning” – Lara Jones, 19, Campus Chronicle member
“I wasn’t necessarily surprised, but I did have more hope than maybe I should. . . Kamala came in so late in the race that it wasn’t even a landslide. Looking at the electoral votes, it was kind of close. But looking at the popular vote, there was no chance . . . as much as she worked really popularly with Gen Z, there’s still more votes in the other direction.” – Cadevr Romero, 20, optimistic
“I kind of saw it coming when I saw him win Pennsylvania because I knew [Pennsylvania] if he won that, then it would be pretty hard for Kamala Harris to make a comeback. So before that, I knew it was going to be close. But after I saw that, I was like, yeah, I think it’s guaranteed.” – Yazan Khabat, 19, didn’t like either candidate
“I was surprised, but at the same time, it was kinda obvious.” – Dym, 20, cried that morning
Commentary – How do you feel about the candidates?
“To be completely honest, I think both of them were not really, like, much better than each other. Both of them had, like, pretty big negatives, and downfalls. So I feel like in the end, it wouldn’t be too good of an outcome. But, I mean, it is what it is. I guess we got Trump back, so we’ll see what that does for us.” – Yazan Khabat, 19, didn’t like either candidate
“I didn’t really know what to expect . . . I feel like both of them had an equal chance of winning, in my opinion.” – Will, 19, didn’t know what to expect
“The one thing I will say is that I’ve seen a lot of worry going around is the fact that it’s all Republicans in the House, the Senate and all that stuff. One thing I think we have to remember is that although it’s like all the same ‘think group’ in a room together, that doesn’t mean they’re going to agree on every single policy, like when has America and their representatives ever 100% agreed on every single thing? So there are still chances that some things aren’t going to be passed because it goes through three different groups of people that it has to be passed through.” – Cadevr Romero, 20, optimistic
