Riley’s College Football Preview

This year looks to be very exciting for college football with many interesting matchups, teams in new conferences, and new recruits.

One highly anticipated recruit is Jeremiah Smith who some are saying has the potential to be as good as Marvin Harrison Jr. was last year. He is playing at Ohio State University and played alongside Harrison Jr. last year. Another intriguing recruit is Georgia Bulldogs Defensive Back Ellis Robinson IV — he is projected to anchor an already amazing Georgia secondary and will try to help lead Georgia to another National Championship.

Another player to watch is Alabama’s Freshman Cornerback Jaylen Mbakwe. He is one of the youngest prospects in this class at 18 years old but during his time at high school, Clay-Chalkville Mbakwe set the all-time school record for Interceptions and Interception touchdowns he has defensive player of the year potential.

Next on the watch list is the youngest player in the class, wide receiver Ryan Williams,17, from Saraland High School, who looks to help an already very deep Alabama receiving core. Last year Williams set the record with the most receiving touchdowns and receiving yards in his school’s history Alabama landed three top 10 recruits this year and things are looking great for the Tide.

Some major D1 schools made moves to different football conferences. Firstly and most notably the Pac-12 lost 10 teams with Oregon, USC, UCLA, and Washington all going to the Big Ten Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and Arizona State all moving to the Big 12, and Stanford, and Cal moving to the ACC. Leaving Oregon State and Washington State as the only Pac-12 teams left. Another shocking conference change was Oklahoma, and Texas leaving the Big 12 to join the SEC. A move some thought was a long time coming.

These changes will bring some intriguing matchups this year. First, we will talk about the classic Red River Rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma This will take place Saturday, Oct.12, and could have major playoff implications as both teams now compete in the SEC. Georgia at Ole Miss is another can’t-miss caliber Game. Both of these teams are ranked top 5 and both teams picked up a handful of recruits. This game takes place late in the year on Saturday, Nov.9, and could very well decide the winner of the SEC. Another quite intriguing matchup will be the defending Big 10 champs the Ohio State Buckeyes taking on the Oregon Ducks. This game will take place Saturday, Oct. 12, and is another matchup of top 5 teams with #2 Ohio State traveling to Eugene to take on #4 Oregon. This is another game that could decide a Big 10 conference winner.

Of course, we can’t forget arguably the greatest college football rivalry ever with Michigan vs Ohio State. This year Ohio State is at home and will try to defend their turf against the reigning national champs the Michigan Wolverines. This game is the final game of the year on Saturday, Nov. 30 and it is #9 Michigan taking on #2 Ohio State, another battle of top 10 teams, this matchup could have major college football playoff implications.

And last but certainly not least the game of the year will be #1 Georgia at #7 Alabama both of these teams were at the top of the list in recruiting this year and are both favorites for the National Championship. This game takes place earlier in the year on Saturday, Sept. 28, and will have college football playoff implications.
