DMACC will celebrate innovation at its West Des Moines campus through during ciWeek (Celebrate! Innovation week!), Feb. 29 to March 4.
Over the last 6 years, ciWeek has brought in presenters from Steve Wozniak of Apple to the last astronaut to walk on the moon to actors from Star Trek. Coming up next week they will be bringing another group of innovative thinkers and doers for ciWeek 7.
According to the CI Week website, “The week long event focuses on inspiration, which is the drive behind creativity.”
Storm Chaser Dr. Reed Trimmer, Mythbuster Kari Byron, and Digital Innovator Thomas Dolby along with others will be presenting at this event. There is no cost to attend either the live event or the simulcast at the other DMACC campuses.
Dr. Anthony Paustian, the Provost for DMACC West Campus heads up the committee that puts together ciWeek every year.
He compared it to a national TED conference that brings together some of the best minds in the world to inspire audiences.
“CiWeek is our way of exposing students to people who are the stories; people who have made a direct impact in our world,” said Paustian said.
Monday and Tuesday there are keynotes each day, but starting Wednesday, a full day starts at 8:45 a.m. and goes through to a 6 p.m. keynote.
Thursday runs from 8:45 a.m. until the Thomas Dolby keynote at 1:30 p.m., and Friday the doors open to high school students from 9 a.m. to noon.
