The Chronicle featured DMACC Sophomore Molly Jacobsen, of Adel, after she was named 2018 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Preseason All-American First Team by Fastpitch News.
The NJCAA and the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) named Jacobsen the Division II Pitcher of the Week for March 12-18.
She was also named Division II Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 12-18 by the NJCAA and ICCAC. and by the ICCAC for the weeks of Feb. 12-18 and Feb. 26-March 4.
During the 2017 season, she was named the 2017 All-American First Team and Division II Pitcher of the Year.
Jacobsen has helped lead the Bears to a 16-0 record, as of press time.
“I think the winning record just gives our team more motivation to keep on winning. We want to stay level headed, though, and focus on playing our game no matter who the opponent is,” she said.
On March 14, Jacobsen helped the team win 5-0 against Northeast Mississippi Community College of Booneville, Mo. She had 19 strikeouts. The kicker is, there were 19 hitters. She went 19-19 strikeouts.
In a game against Southeast Community College of Beatrice, Neb. on March 18, Jacobsen struck out 15 hitters. She was 15-15 in strikeouts. The game was over in five innings with the Bears winning 8-0.
Later that week on March 22, Jacobsen went 14-14 in strikeouts, beating Southeastern of West Burlington, Iowa 8-0 in six innings.
The sophomore has been 100-percent in strikeouts in four other games prior to those! We can only assume it will happen in games to come. She has 92 strikeouts total.
“I think individually I have accomplished just staying mentally tough no matter what situation I am in. Also, I think I’ve been doing a pretty good job of getting ahead in the count and that’s something I want to keep doing and improving on,” Jacobsen said.
Jacobsen and the rest of the Bears will play in Boone on Friday, March 30 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. against Northeast Hawks of Nebraska.
