Last Saturday the DMACC men’s basketball team played three exhibition games in the JUCO Jam, winning all three.
The Bears first game was against Black Hawk-Moline, Ill., which the Bears won by a score of 49-33. Unofficial stats for the Bears had freshman Zach Lester leading the team with 11 points, 9 by sophomore Zaire Swaby, and 8 points each by sophomores Devonta Prince and Deshawn Davidson.
Davidson was active on both ends, with four steals that led to fastbreak points and assists for other teammates as well as himself.
Davidson said that’s a part of his role on the team this year, saying “being the point guard when we’re out and running, keeping everybody together on defense . . . [that] comes from Coach [Bowler’s] system.”
The Bears beat Northeast, Iowa 44-43 in their second game Saturday. DMACC was led in scoring by Tray Buchanan with 15 points, other Bears contributors were Davidson (8pts, 4reb, 1stl), Swaby (6pts, 5reb), and Prince (4pts, 3reb).
DMACC completed the day by beating John Wood college, Ill., there were no unofficial stats available from this game.
Prince says he’s excited for this upcoming season, “We’re going to come out stronger
this year. We have a better team, we’re longer this year, we have guys that are going to work hard.”
DMACC will appear in three more exhibition invitationals before starting their season at home November 1, hosting the William Penn JV.
