Ankeny Centennial graduate earns Big 10 Freshman of the Week at Iowa

Riley Moss, an Ankeny Centennial graduate who is now playing for the University of Iowa as a true freshman, has won Big Ten Freshman of the Week for his performance Saturday, Oct. 6 against Minnesota.

With injuries to starting corners Michael Ojemudia and Matt Hankins, Moss and fellow true freshman Julius Brents both started for the Hawkeyes. Minnesota picked on Moss early and often, including scoring a seven-yard TD on Moss, but the Ankeny native responded with two interceptions.

In the first few games, Moss had only played on special teams, but he stepped up Saturday in the place of two of his injured teammates. Brents caught an interception on the day as well, giving the two freshmen a combined three interceptions in their starting debuts. Moss also finished tied-for-second on team in tackles on the day with four. Moss nearly returned his second interception of the day for a touchdown to help secure the game, leading to a 48-31 victory on the road.
